The Columbus Lions continued their commitment to the community this week by celebrating Read Across America Week with visits to several area elementary schools. Lions players, coaches, and the teamās beloved mascot Leo the Lion spent time reading to students, encouraging literacy, and sharing the importance of education both on and off the field.
Throughout the week, the Lions made stops at Rigdon Road Elementary School, Mount Olive Primary School, Dorothy Height Elementary School, and River Road Elementary School, where students were excited to welcome their special guests.
Inside classrooms and libraries, Lions players took time to read books with students, answer questions, and talk about the value of hard work, education, and teamwork. Leo the Lion brought plenty of energy and smiles, helping create an atmosphere that made reading fun and memorable for the young scholars.
For many students, it was their first time meeting professional football players up close. The visits gave them a chance to interact with positive role models who reinforced an important message ā reading opens doors and learning is the foundation for future success.
āBeing able to come into schools and spend time with these students is important to our organization,ā said Columbus Lions General Manager Corry Black. āWe want young people to know that being great starts in the classroom. Events like Read Across America allow us to connect with our community and encourage scholars to dream big.ā

Teachers and administrators at each school expressed appreciation for the Lions taking time out of their schedules to invest in students. The energy in the classrooms was contagious as students gathered around to listen, ask questions, and take photos with Leo the Lion.
Community outreach has long been a priority for the Columbus Lions organization, and events like these continue to strengthen the bond between the team and the families they represent across the region.
As the Lions prepare for the upcoming season, the team remains committed not only to winning on the field but also to making a meaningful impact in the community.
Because for the Columbus Lions, the mission goes beyond football ā itās about inspiring the next generation!
