The Columbus Lions continued their undefeated season on Sunday afternoon with a commanding 54-30 victory over the Peach State Cats at the Columbus Civic Center, improving to 5-0 on the year.
It was a tremendous atmosphere for Sunday football as fans packed the Civic Center for the organization’s highly anticipated Faith & Family Day. The day was highlighted by an unforgettable halftime performance from Grammy Award-winning artist Le’Andria Johnson, who absolutely brought the house down and delivered one of the biggest halftime moments of the season.
On the field, the Lions offense once again showed why it is one of the most explosive units in arena football. Quarterback Blaine Espinosa threw for 211 yards and 5 touchdowns while completing 15-of-20 passes.
Jacob Smith led the receiving corps with 6 catches for 71 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Jacyais Credle added 76 receiving yards and a touchdown. Marco Lee added two rushing touchdowns to help power the Lions attack.
Defensively, the Lions continued to make plays all afternoon. Denoris Wardlow recorded an interception, while Collin Neely added a sack and fumble recovery as the defense limited Peach State to only 117 total yards.
One of the most exciting moments of the afternoon came during the fan-favorite “Kick It To Win It” contest as Elan Hall nailed the winning kick to take home the $8,000 grand prize. Columbus Lions Owner Roger Beck and GM Corry Black presented Hall with his winnings in front of an electric Faith & Family Day crowd inside the Civic Center.
A huge congratulations also goes out to Faith Fellowship Worship Center for winning the Columbus Lions Largest Church Challenge! 🙌🏈 Thank you for bringing the energy, packing the den, and showing up big for Faith & Family Day.
The Columbus Lions organization also wants to send a massive THANK YOU to all the incredible churches and congregations who came out and helped make the night such an unforgettable success. The community spirit inside the arena was unmatched, and the support from the surrounding region continues to make Columbus one of the best game-day atmospheres in arena football.
After a competitive first quarter, Columbus exploded offensively by scoring 20 points in both the second and third quarters to pull away and remain undefeated.
The Lions will now head into a bye week to rest and regroup before traveling to Mississippi on May 30th for their next matchup as they continue their push toward another championship run.
